The Foundation Institute San Raffaele - G. Giglio of Cefalù was founded the 17th of January 2003. The founders were the Sicilian Region, the Comune of Cefalù, the Ausl n. 6 of Palermo and the Foundation Centre San Raffaele del Monte Tabor of Milan. It was one of the first partnership, that have born in Italy, with a public and private sharing. In the center there is the experimentation's project (authorized by the Sicilian Region's government the 23rd of December 2002), for the management of the hospital "Giuseppe Giglio" of Cefalù. This structure disposes potentially of about 260 bed places, ready to begin an hospital with a national importance and to offer assistance, research and formation's activity.

The importance of the project lies on the extraordinary commitment by the Foundation Centre San Raffaele del Monte Tabor of Milan (no profit Agency), that contributes to fulfilling scopes and aims of the foundation itself, by giving its own trademark "San Raffaele" together with its knowledge and technical and scientific (know-how) as well as its management structures in the field of health's services and related research.

The Foundation born with the ambitious objective of avoiding the sanitary migration, as well as supply adequately o people's ask for a good quality health's services on the territory.

The name
The name chosen for the Foundation "Institute San Raffaele - Giuseppe Giglio" comes from the one of San Raffaele of Milan that comes from the jewish Raf-el, that means "God's cure", "God Heals" and one of Giuseppe Giglio from Cefalù. He was a gynaecologist and a obstetrician that during his life, in 1906, founded the "Cassa autonoma di soccorso alla maternità proletaria"for helping poor people and in 1928, after his death, in his will,he gave his whole palace for it to be used as a new location for the old hospital of Cefalù, with the condition that it should be used for health services.

In according with the institutional aims of the Foundation, the mission of the Institute is to look after people's health according to the evangelic mandate "Go, teach, heal".
